Details of ASHI/HSI Adult First Aid, CPR, AED Course
About this Class: HSI Medic BasicPlus
First Aid Basic Plus is a combined adult First Aid, CPR and AED training course. The program designed specifically for the occupational First Aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA, and other Federal and State regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond, and care for medical emergencies at work.
This First Aid resuscitation program conforms to national standards and is based on the same scientific guidelines and treatment recommendations found in the 2015 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR), the same as those used by the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Red Cross (ARC) for course development.
The programs are accepted as equivalent to the AHA and ARC by many state regulatory authorities, the Department of Homeland Security United States Coast Guard, and others. They are consistent with OSHA’s best practices for first aid training programs.
The program is based upon the 2015 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) and other evidence-based treatment recommendations.

Individuals who require or desire CPR, AED, and First Aid knowledge and skills with a focus on adults.
Maritime Professionals (not STCW)
Occupational First Aid providers
Successful Completion (Certification)
Required when specified by organizational, local, or state regulation. It is recommended for designated responders with a duty or employer expectation to respond in an emergency, and provide first aid care.
All students must perform required skills competently without assistance.

About Your Instructor
Captain Thomas Bliss (Licensed USCG Master Mariner) is Certified by The American Heart Association, The American Red Cross, and the American Safety and Health Institute as an BLS, Adult & Pediatric, and EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) Instructor.
A self described “Safety Nerd” Thomas log’s approximately 2800 hours a year in various safety training courses from BLS, BST, Emergency Medical Responder, complex SAR (Search and Rescue) training courses and Fast Rescue Boat On-The Water training operations.
As a cold water survival expert Thomas has traveled to the far northern reaches of this planet including the Beaufort Sea, some 270 miles north of the arctic circle to teach cold water survival to seismic ship-board exploration crews.
A former Assistant Director for Fremont Maritime Services/India Tango where he specialized in Maritime Safety and Response Training; Thomas continues to serve with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a COXSWAIN in the 13th Coast Guard District. Thomas dedicates his time not only to educate professional mariners, but also to community recreational boating education. Thomas is also the founder of Northwest Response a Lay Responder Medical Training Enterprise, Northwest First Aid, an event stand-by EMS (emergency medical service) professional providing care and medical coverage to thousands of event patrons from Marathons to Music Festivals.
For the past 23 years Thomas has resided in the Maritime Community of Gig Harbor, Washington.
